Comprised of musicians, music industry professionals, and fans, MUSIC FOR RELIEF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing aid to natural disaster survivors and protecting the environment.
Music for Relief was founded by the band Linkin Park in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Since inception in 2005 Music for Relief has raised over $7 million for survivors of multiple disasters across four continents including Hurricane Katrina, China’s Wenchuan earthquake, a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe, earthquakes in Haiti and Japan in 2010, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Recognizing the consequences of global climate change, Music for Relief expanded its focus to environmental protection and preservation in 2007. Through programs like Power the World, a collaboration with the UN Foundation aimed at providing sustainable energy solutions to vulnerable populations, Music for Relief is helping mitigate and in some cases prevent natural disasters.
Rooted in the music industry Music for Relief leverages its unique position to reach artists and countless fans around the world to raise funds and awareness to execute its programs. We believe that through strategic collaborations we are able to have a greater impact and designate funds raised accordingly. Utilizing a detailed vetting process we identify organization aligned with our mission, capable of responsibly executing projects on the ground with full transparency. With overhead costs graciously covered by Linkin Park, 100% of funds raised go directly to our programs.
MFR has organized benefit concerts, online auctions, and events with multi-platinum musicians and celebrities to help rebuild and donate supplies to people in need. Music for Relief has also planted over 1 million trees to help reduce climate change.
Linkin Park came up with the idea for Download to Donate in 2010 following the Haiti earthquake. It was a compilation of unreleased songs from A-list artists available digitally and it was essential in raising funds for earthquake survivors. MFR created another Download to Donate album in 2011 to bring aid to Japan following the earthquake and tsunami. Now, in recognition of the talent and altruism of unsigned artists, we invite you to participate in Download to Donate 2015: a competition to create an exceptional album with proceeds benefitting our fund for future disasters.
